Thursday afternoon roll-up

Club Roll-Ups

Tuesday evening

Chulmleigh SMBC have a team in the Mid Devon Star League which play triples (three woods) matches in the evenings during the winter months. We always play our home matches on Tuesday evening which is a straight through 18 ends match. Members who are not in the team are encouraged to come along and play on the other mats and help support the match team.

Away matches are played on whichever night the home team plays which are usually Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. We have 6 registered team members at present so that we can choose a 3 member team from any of them.

There are other short mat leagues in Devon who play matches during the daytime but long distance travelling is required and at present our club is hesitant in joining.

During the non-league periods we have friendly roll-ups and occasional club competition matches with a break halfway for a natter and tea/coffee and biscuits.

Thursday afternoon

Thursdays are when we play our social matches. We meet to have roll-ups, coach new players, have a general chitchat and enjoy a hot drink and a snack.

We have recently started a new ‘competition’ called the Thursday Accumulator - until a better name comes up! All members who attend and play will have the final score added to a monthly chart and whoever has the most points by the AGM will win. A trophy or prize has yet to be decided.

The club also runs various in-house competitions throughout the year and winners and runners up are presented with trophies at the AGM. We currently compete for the following trophies:
  • The Chappell Trophy  -  this is a Ladies versus Men singles tournament for a cup presented by a former members family. We often have to make it a singles competition because there are not enough of either sex to make up the numbers.
  • Singles trophy  -  a random drawn singles competition
  • Doubles trophy - Random mixed teams
  • The Thursday Accumulator  -  this is a competition to try and attract more players to compete for a trophy throughout the Thursday afternoon meets. If successful I will add more information after the AGM.
We also at various times have fun afternoons where we make up various bowls games and monied fines are imposed. All money raised usually goes to the Devon Air Ambulance as Chulmleigh is very reliant on its services. We recently helped raise funding for night landing lights at the Pavilion.
