July 2019

You will be pleased to note that the new manual winder mat trolley was delivered on the 2nd. Thanks to Andy & Phil for dealing with it.

The in-house competitions were completed and the winners will be announced.

Welcome to Maurice & Beryl who have now become official club members. Takes our membership to 20.

The ‘fun’ afternoon on the 18th was well supported and hopefully all enjoyed the games I organised!!

A big thank you and well done to Elizabeth and Mary who put a lot of effort into producing a fine display in the floral arrangement in the Chulmleigh Old Fair flower festival at the Congregational Church. The theme this year ‘the Greatest Show on Earth’. I will try and publish a picture of the display on here when available.

Also thank you to members who helped publicise our club during fair week.

August 2019

As all members know we have a months enforced holiday due to works in the Pavilion.
Yes - we will have a new floor when we return in September.
Here are some dates to keep in your diaries:

10th - don’t forget our club Coffee Morning as usual at the Town Hall from 08.30 onwards. All help gratefully received! Items for the bric-a-brac stall and the raffle will be most welcome.

Work is ongoing at the Pavilion. All the rear storage area now in the new container. Wood floor removed and under floor heating & cement screed n place & working well. All the club wood bits have been painted & stored. The hall is being painted and the floor will be finally finished on the 10th September. WE WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE A ROLL-UP ON TUESDAY 10Th - so looking forward to seeing everyone that evening.

September 2019

6th - Club summer lunch at Weirmarsh. Menu etc to be announced. NB. A super lunch attended by nearly all members and their partners. Both food and service excellent. Thanks to Gill once again for her organisational skills over a rather fraught time with the menu.

7th - Margaret Elliott pairs at ISCA. Mary & John and Elizabeth & Richard to take part. NB. A very good day at Exeter - long and tiring! Elizabeth & I managed to get through to the quarter finals out of 32 teams. So no win for either team - not even a raffle prize!

10th - our first evening back to the new floor.

11th - played our first session on the new floor last evening and all who rolled-up were very impressed. The hall is much quieter and with new LED lights and lovely grey colour coordination twixt floor and walls, the hall looks very light and clean. Let’s hope it lasts! I purchased 2 lengths of 1" thick rope to help protect the walls and they appeared to work very well keeping the stray bowls away. I will try and source some more over the coming weeks. Please check out the Album Page for photos.

October 2019

A rather sad start to the month with the sudden death of long standing servant to the club - John Lawes, who passed away whilst in Wiltshire on Saturday 5th. May he rest in peace. Our sympathies and thoughts go to Mary and family at this tragic time.

8th. Played our first home league match against Winkleigh B - & won 16 - 13. Well done Elizabeth, Andy & Richard.

12th. Good day spent at High Bickington in the Pyncombe Rose Bowl Pairs competition. Jan Green & Maurice Kibby came 2nd in group A - which was a great performance. No trophy though! Elizabeth & Richard made up the second pairing - and were abysmal!! We won our last match (out of 4) - so ended up supporting the rest of our group!! But we enjoyed the day thoroughly, met & played against very pleasant teams (some very serious) from far & wide and will try again next year - if they invite us!! Well done to Jan & Maurice who have not played together before. A great team! Chulmleigh didn’t win anything in the raffle either - so it just wasn’t our day!!

Sorry - have been a little lax in updates!

The Chulmleigh team are coping quite well as only 3 players are dealing with the league games - so far!

Please go to the Star League page to view all our results and attempts at overhauling the other teams!

I would like to thank all the league players who have supported Derek & myself in raising money for the MOVEMBER moustache & beard growing. If you wish to contribute further please visit my Facebook page and donate - or get in touch and promise a donation via our sponsorship forms. We have done very well so far and raised nearly £500 between us - but more is only better!!
Don’t forget this is for research and development into various men’s health problems. Prostate cancer, Testicular cancer, Penile cancer and other health issues particularly pertaining to the male body.
Hopefully you will see this and support.
Thank you Richard & Derek.

February 2020

I wish to apologise for not keeping up to date with all the news. I will try to rectify this over the next few days!
With regard to our Movember fundraiser Derek & I raised £750 and I would like to thank you all for supporting our growth experience throughout. I have now shaved my ‘gringo’ moustache but Derek is keeping his full beard and keeping it well trimmed.
